Bundesverband Zeitgenössischer Zirkus

In contrast to other countries, in Germany contemporary circus is not recognized as an independent art form and thus practically excluded from cultural funding. This deficit confronts German actors with the fundamental question of how they can realize and finance their projects. By international standards, they experience extreme disadvantages, and the unequal conditions of production ultimately lead to only a fraction of the artistic possibilities being realized in Germany. Due to the commercial structures, the pressure on productions is so high that purely artistically motivated projects and creative people often find no room to express themselves or to present their work.

As an active member of the Bundesverband Zeitgenössischer Zirkus (Federal Association of Contemporary Circus) we promote and encourage differentiated exchange at the level of cultural policy and represent the interests of contemporary circus professionals within the federal associations and support structures.

The Manifesto for Contemporary Circus

Together with our partners - the Initiative Neuer Zirkus, Berlin Circus Festival and Sebastiano Productions, we participated in the development and publication of the Manifesto for Contemporary Circus. With this manifesto we want to achieve greater appreciation and support for contemporary circus and make it clear that contemporary circus deserves an equal place alongside other forms of contemporary performing art.
